Bio

Paul Abutu, a dedicated attorney with a passion for knowledge sharing, commenced his academic journey by earning an LLB in Law from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria. Subsequently, he attended the Nigerian Law School, obtaining certification as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after successfully passing the Bar exam.

Furthering his education, Abutu earned a master’s degree in International Legal Studies from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California, and another master’s degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defense Academy in Kaduna, Nigeria. Before relocating to the United States, he gained valuable experience in various Nigerian law offices, including Arewa Chambers in Katsina, Reuben Atabo and Co. in Kaduna, and T.P Tochukwu and Co. in Abuja.

In the U.S., Paul Abutu worked with Emley Law Office, LLP, in San Francisco, and Edgar Law Group in San Jose, California. His extensive litigation background, both domestically and internationally, provides practical insights into the legal field, enabling him to make a lasting impact on his students beyond the confines of substantive law.

Abutu has authored several unpublished papers, covering topics such as the impact of terrorism in Nigeria with a focus on Boko Haram, same-sex marriage in Nigeria, and a comparison between marriages under Shariah and English law. His time in San Francisco was marked by memorable experiences, exposing him to the city’s rich history and influencing his perspectives on racial diversity, minority inclusion (especially regarding LGBTQ issues), and the intricacies of the United States court system and jurisprudence.

Among his hobbies are analyzing court decisions, exploring political topics, delving into international law, watching soccer, and going on walks.
