Dessislava Ivanova

Dessislava Ivanova is an accomplished educator with a diverse academic background and extensive experience in English language instruction. She earned her BA degree in English Literature and Business Administration from the American University in Bulgaria, followed by an MA in TESOL from Penn State University, USA. Dessi also completed PhD coursework in Applied Linguistics at Penn State.

With over thirteen years of teaching experience, Dessi has imparted English language skills to international students worldwide. Presently, she serves as the Pre-Faculty Level Head at Istanbul Sehir University in Istanbul, Turkey. Her teaching journey has taken her to various countries, including the USA, Canada, and Bulgaria.

Dessi’s expertise lies in teaching both general and academic English courses. She has a significant background in instructing academic writing and oral communication to graduate and undergraduate students, as well as those preparing to enter university faculty programs. Her versatile experience also includes roles as a Writing Center Director and instructor for TOEFL, IELTS, and Critical Thinking.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dessi is a perpetual learner. Currently undergoing training as an opera singer, she is deeply passionate about music. Outside of her academic pursuits, Dessi finds joy in activities such as yoga, meditation, reading, philosophy, and connecting with nature. Her multifaceted interests and commitment to lifelong learning enrich both her teaching and personal experiences.
