The Honorable Dr. Chris V. Rey, originally from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, spent his formative years in Spring Lake, North Carolina. Graduating as a track and field All-American from Pine Forest Senior High, he pursued higher education at East Carolina University on a full athletic scholarship. As a student leader, Dr. Rey was recognized for his proactive stance on addressing racial inequality, contributing to a more open and diverse campus environment.
In 2000, Dr. Rey enlisted in the U.S. Army as a computer information technology analyst. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps after two years through the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School, he served deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning military awards such as the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Post-military service, Dr. Rey pursued studies at William & Mary School of Law, the nation’s oldest law school. Upon graduation, he worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, focusing on cybersecurity policy to counter global cyber threats.
In 2008, Dr. Rey was elected to the United States Electoral College, casting the ballot for the President and Vice President. At 34, he became the youngest Mayor of the City of Spring Lake, North Carolina, serving three terms from 2011 to 2017.
Professionally, Dr. Rey is the Director of Strategic Partnerships for the March of Dimes, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to maternal and child health. Previously, he served as the Mid-Atlantic Region Corporate Executive for Sodexo, North America, overseeing business aspects for New Jersey’s largest urban school districts. Dr. Rey is also an adjunct professor in criminal justice at the University of Mount Olive, teaching courses on constitutional law, criminal justice, and cyber-crimes. He has presented globally on strategic economic planning for local governments.
Dr. Rey holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Information Systems, a Juris Doctor Degree from William & Mary School of Law, and is currently pursuing an Executive Masters in Cyber Security from Brown University. A graduate of the University of Virginia Sorenson Institute for Political Leadership, Dr. Rey is involved in various boards and serves as the International Director of Social Action for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Married to Adwoa Rey, Dr. Rey and his spouse have four children.
